Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Many of you may have children and some of you may not. If not, please pass this message on to someone who may be interested. I run an Islamic Waldorf school here in Saudi Arabia and recently I have been trying to form an International community of mothers sharing Islam with their children in creative ways. I am offering to share the lesson plans from my "enrichment school" program and am seeking to create a large community so I am only charging $5.00 for the first month's lessons and then $10.00 a month after that for complete monthly lesson plans. My lesson plans integrate the Western calendar with the Islamic calendar to create a unique lesson plan each month. These are not cut-and-paste plans. They are living lessons! We use these in our school here each month and I plan them every month anew! Enjoy the free sample below. The sample below is for children aged 3-5 and is intended to be for a mother-child class but it could also be used for a mosque pre-KG and KG program. I have lesson plans each month for grades KG-3rd grade. Visit my site www.muslimhomeschoolers.com if you need more information.
As you read through the lessons keep in mind that I provide you with a lot of information and options so you may take my lessons and "pick and chose" what you like. Some mosque programs may chose only to use the purely Islamic material while some combined programs (Muslim and non-Muslim children or Muslim children in public schools) may chose to use the more International program options. This is meant to be a base lesson to inspire you and provide you with a basic structure for your classes - homeschooling, Saturday-school or after-school enrichment or even something to do with your own children on the weekend.
Blessings & Health,

Story Time
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stories should be roughly "memorized" and TOLD with expression and creativity. You can use face-less dolls and little wooden trees and piles of sand as a little stage for a table-puppet show - at first you can also use plastic figures as props until you find wooden ones. You can even pretend tall blocks are people and larger blocks are trees and hills, etc - use some scarves as landscape. I have provided you with the basic story only. You are responsible for telling it with the expression and props. Do not read it!
Week One: The Story of Adam (Theme: Beginnings) Week Two: The story of Nuh Week Three: The Story of Musa Week Four: The Pink Rose and the Date Orchard.

Dear Sisters,
Happy New Year and Happy Spring! What a happy time to be experiencing both during the same month! This, then, is the perfect time to start new things and to learn new skills. Encourage your children to learn new things and use their skills as well. Last month I taught my classes how to sew and during the week I left the sewing items out on the art-room table. During that same week my children decided to repair their blankets and stuffed animals all by themselves! It was wonderful to see them taking what they had learned and applying it to different situations. By teaching children useful skills and then supplying them with the tools to use these skills we are teaching responsibility and giving our children more respect. .
We can all learn new things this month. As usual I have the verses packed with Arabic, Spanish, French and Sign Language. As usual the kids will all have it memorized long before I do J I have also introduced the concept this month of "weaving" some Arabic into one of the verses. As you sing the verses you can either make up a tune or you can use any popular tune you like to sing them if you do not know the tune. During craft time we will learn a bit about seeds and planting. During story-time we will explore the ideas of "beginnings" and "firsts". Enjoy the month! Blessings & Health, Kristie Karima Burns, MH, ND

Week One: Plant a No-Ruz Garden Start with a large pie plate or similar sized plate Put some soil in the plate. Put egg-shells by the halves in the plate. Put some soil in the eggshells and plant in them wheat, barley and/or grass seed. Arrange rocks and moss, shells and other nature things in the plate. Sprinkle it with water and wait
Week Two: Noah's Ark Stamping Cut some potatoes in half Carve animal shapes in half a potato and use it to stamp paint on paper. If you are not so skilled with carving you can just carve simple shapes and have the kids stamp them into the shapes of animals. Press the half of potato into some poster paints and then onto your paper.
Week Three: Finish the No-Ruz Garden The garden should be grown up by now. The grass should be about an inch tall or more. Add the seven traditional things of "s" to the garden - fish, candles, vinegar, garlic, eggs, barley and wheat, & coins. You can shape the fish from some terra cotta clay or homemade play-dough. Arrange everything in your plate-garden to form a nice Spring centerpiece for your dinner or nature table. You can also have the children think of other "s" things in English (the traditional "s" things are really "s" in Persian like Samak Fish) and put different things in the garden. Or have them look for more things to add. Have them shape little animals, toadstools, bugs, etc..from clay and add them to the garden.
Week Four: Butterfly Paintings Start with water-color paper cut into the shape of a butterfly. Saok the paper in water to keep it wet Put two colors of watercolor in a glass Have the children paint wet on wet a design on one side of the butterfly Fold the paper in half to create a surprise on the other wing. Let it dry.
Recipes of the Month
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Every class day we start the class by shaping bread. Sometimes I make a snack for the children. To create a feeling of comfort and familiarity I use the same bread recipe every class time. However, once a month I have the children make a special bread. You can find the recipes for all of these at the link below...
This Month's Recipes are: Irish Soda Bread (for Saint Patrick's Day) New Year's Bread (Greek for the Muslim New Year) Sweet Rice Cakes (For Japanese Girl's Day)

International Holidays
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are living in a world where it is neccessary to be aware of what other children are doing around the globe. Cultivate an awareness of global culture in your child by sharing with him or her the International holidays this month. This information is informational for teachers only. You can chose which holidays you wish to share with the class.
