    A Stand with Oneself

In the name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the ever-merciful

Praise be to Allah; the lord of Mankind, blessing and prayer be upon the noblest messenger Muhammad peace and blessings be upon him, his family, and his entire companions.

O Generous Lord, ease our affairs and complete it with good.

    A Stand with Oneself

Praise be to Allah Who knows all and conquers every creature of pride and judgment. Praise be to Him for His countless and numberless favors and prayers and blessings on the messenger of mercy to all people, his companions, followers, and those who followed his guidance and sunnah (the biography of prophet) till the Day of Judgment..

    And after:

Insight calls you to stand with yourself as if you were a judging reminder, because those who face themselves in this life; their scales of bad deeds will decrease; the response to angles in the grave will be given after asking them; their final destination will be good. However, those who don’t face themselves, their pains will be lasted and the events of the Day of Judgment will be prolonged.

Omar Ibnal Kattab, the second Caliph, said: “subjugate your souls, before you’ll be judged and scale it before it’ll be scaled.” The type of people who keep his reckoning is described by prudence, strength, and firmness; nevertheless, the one who is defeated by his soul and controlled by his desire is helpless lacking strength and determination and the prophet peace and blessings be upon him said: “The clever person is the one who subjugates his soul, and works for what is after death. And the incapable is the one who follows his desires and merely hopes in Allah.

We ask you to stand with yourself and take two pauses:

    · A pause on the doings of the past.

    · A pause on anticipating the coming future.

The first: a pause on your past.

Make a stand with yourself from now and then, looking into your past and thinking of what you committed in your day from a saying or action and your black night whether you spent it in silence or thinking. Besides, you should look at what your hand performed, what your tongue uttered, what your eyes saw, what your ears heard, and what your legs stepped on. You are responsible for everything. God, Almighty, said: “Lo! The hearing and the sight and the heart - of each of these it will be asked.” (17:36)

Look at the rights which God has assigned to you, it’s a trust in your hands; Have you performed them properly, or have you wasted them following your blind and ignorant self?

The first right you should consider is the duty of your master, the Lord of mankind as He ordered you to fulfil His rights. He said: “O ye who believe! Observe your duty to Allah with right observance and die not saving as those who have surrendered (unto Him)” (3:102). The right, Glorified be He, is to be obeyed and not to be disobeyed; He should be thanked not to be disbelieved and to be worshipped alone without any partners.

How were you lately handling these currents that jostle human beings?:

    · Were you a straw that a current can manipulate? Or were you a solid rock that damages the waves?

    · Were you merely concerned with how to acquire means to eat, drink and dress?

Or were you someone who has a principle and message that according to which you want your life to be laid upon, you want to communicate such message to people, and you want it to be a frame that governs and domains life?

    · What were your painful events in your past?

A post you couldn’t acquire? Or a worldly matter you couldn’t conquer?

Or did the call to God domain every breath in your soul?

If its importance increases and its banner rise, your heart will beat happily, but if it is affected by storms and adversity, the eye will cry and weep, the soul will be sad, and the tongue will complain to the Lord of mankind about the injustice of people?

Were you in the past sowing virtues instilled in your own words and good manners, spreading fragrance through your good deeds? Or did you instil evil and harm? Or were you neither in the caravan nor in the horn?

Many questions you may ask to face and punish your soul for the last deeds, then you will know the right path, and this correction will be according to divine legislation.

The second: a pause on your coming future

The second stand that we want from you to take is a pause with yourself concerning the coming years and the coming hours. As the past you don’t have any ability to regain it, but you can correct the bad things by asking God for forgiveness, repentance, and penitence. But the future you own and by strong determination and high mettle, you can stand in the right path. That’s why you should seize the opportunity as this day or this hour may be your last day or the last hour. No one knows when will the last moment come?

We call you to work in your day as if you know quite well it is the last day and you’ll die; paying farewell to this immortal life to a mortal life. You may tell me: I can’t control my soul because it is like a horse without a bridle, when I want to control it by the bridle of piety and assign it by good deeds to perform; I can’t control it in the right path.

How can I obligate this soul in the right path?

The answer is that the soul is like a baby if we don’t wean it, it’ll grow up and still suckles from its mother’s breast, but if you wean it off, it’ll be weaned.

The soul is like a baby if you neglect it it’ll grow on loving breastfeeding and if you wean it off it’ll be weaned.

Our souls are in need of taming to be upright on God’s obedience, and then it’ll be free from its pains as injustice, ignorance, and haste. God, Almighty, describe human being as “And man assumed it. Lo! he hath proved a tyrant and a fool.” (33:72) and as “for man was ever hasty (17:11).”

The key to reform the human soul is Islam. If the soul is guided towards Islam, it’ll be directed by it and its orders will be upright. If the soul knows its creator and lord, it’ll be guided to the right path.

You should keep reminding yourself of God, you should invoke as if you see him. If you can’t reach such a level, you may worship Him as He sees you “Ihsan” (i.e. perfection or Benevolence) and this is the greatest grade as the prophet peace and blessing be upon him said: “to worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you do not achieve this state of devotion, then (take it for granted that) Allah sees you.” (Agreed upon)

Remind yourself that your Lord sees you and surrounds everything by His knowledge. God told us about His comprehensive knowledge: “And with Him are the keys of the Invisible. None but He knoweth them. And He knoweth what is in the land and the sea. Not a leaf falleth but He knoweth it, not a grain amid the darkness of the earth, naught of wet or dry but (it is noted) in a clear record.” (6:59)

Our Lord informed us about His knowledge concerning our secret deeds as He said: “And thou (Muhammad) art not occupied with any business and thou recitest not a Lecture from this (Scripture), and ye (mankind) perform no act, but We are Witness of you when ye are engaged therein.” (10:61)

If the soul realizes that it is being watched by God, All-Knower, and observed be Him, it’ll improve its deeds and stop laziness and idleness.

If you seclude yourself one day don’t say I’m alone, but say God is with me

Don’t deem that God is unaware even one hour and not what you hide is vanished

Hast thou not seen that this today is quickly gone? And tomorrow will be near for lookers

Remind this wild and stray soul of God’s blessing; He created you in the best shape; honoured you by intellect and reason; bestowed you with senses.

If you contemplate in this wide universe, the heart will surrender to God; the soul will feel comfortable with God when it comprehends God’s countless and numberless blessings surrounding us everywhere; if you contemplate in the sun and its rays; moon and its brightness; the star and its shining; the sea and its creatures; the rivers and what they have; water sent down from heaven; goodness that earth has; and what God has granted you from cattle.... all these capture the soul and push it to escape from God’s punishment to God’s mercy.

Jog your memory with the reality of this worldly life that the souls strive and indulge in. Remind it that these days are mortal, these days are not lasting, its flower shall be wilted, and its decoration and pleasures won’t last forever. In another scale, remind it with permanent happiness in eternal life. God, Almighty, said: “its food is everlasting, and its shade.”(13:35).

Those who enter it will be blessed and not desperate; will be happy and not sad.

If it keeps being stubborn and the soul doesn’t accept to be tamed, so treat it as a master treats its slave and tell it:

Shame on you may God be Merciful to you, if you commit the bad deed with a belief that God doesn’t see you... what the greatest of your disbelief!!

But if you know that He knows everything.... what the greatest of your impudence and less of your shame.

Shame on your if you see one of your slaves or one of your brothers performing something you hate, what will be your reaction? Will you be angry and furious with him?

How dare you challenge God’s wrath and His punishment, do you believe that you can bear His torment?

How far, how impossible you’re incapable to bear the heat of the worldly fire and its torment. To what extend the heat of sun in the day of summer over fatigues you!!

To what extent the excessive cold affects you and what do you do when you touch a overheated piece of iron?

If it refuses and continues in its stubbornness and doesn’t stand in the right path, so remind it of: death and its agonies; grave and its trail and how it can be a garden of gardens in paradise or a pit from pits of the Fire.” Jog your memory with the day when all things are vanished: the sun and the moon will be eclipsed; the stars will explode and fall on the earth and on the mountains. Moreover, you may remind it with the resurrection day when all people rise from their graves; they will be barefooted, naked, walking on feet, and uncircumcised, adding that God will gather all people in a day that is as long as fifty thousand years and list some of terrors that will happen this day as He will make children hoary-headed men you shall see mankind as in a drunken state, yet not drunk, but severe will be the torment of Allah. He, Almighty, said: “Deem not that Allah is unaware of what the wicked do. He but giveth them a respite till a day when eyes will stare (in terror), as they come hurrying on in fear, their heads upraised, their gaze returning not to them, and their hearts as air.” (14: 42- 43)

Repeat again the condition of happy people seeking shelter in the shade of God when there is no shade but His. God, Almighty, said: “Those who have earned the Garden on that day will be better in their home and happier in their place of noonday rest.” (25: 24)

May God grant us to control our souls by the bridle of piety...? And to be of those who are sincere and God is satisfied with them.

Peace and blessing be upon our prophet Muhammad, his family, and companions...
